The Pilgrim Edward Doty Society now meets every three years in Plymouth,
Massachusetts. The most recent meeting was held
September 10 and 11, 2008, at the Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor, when board
members were elected. George Doty gave an update on our successful Y-DNA
study. See photographs of the events.
In addition,
one of the Native American Wampanoag Indians from the Plimoth Plantation spoke.
He made an point about the first Thanksgiving dinner - at that time, the
Pilgrims were starving, and had buried half their numbers. When 80 of his
ancestors showed up for dinner, where did the food come from? The answer,
logically, is that the warriors went hunting for deer and turkeys.
Another interesting point is that the Wampanoags were losing tribal members to
diseases from previous contacts with European traders and fisherman. The
tribe needed an alliance with the Pilgrims against other nearby tribes.
The second speaker was Harvey Robbins from the Friends of Prowse Farm. The
Doty Society has contributed to a fund to purchase the sign that previously
marked
the Doty Tavern in Canton, MA. T. Doty's tavern was used as a
rendezvous for Revolutionary War patriots.

The banquet, a traditional pilgrim dinner, was held at the Plimoth
Plantation. Edward Doty arrived for an hour of visiting and questions,
making history come alive.
The previous meeting was held in Plymouth September 15 to 17, 2005 at the Pilgrim Sands Motel with a reception at the Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor, and a
banquet and annual meeting at the Accomack Room at Plimoth Plantation.
You may see photographs taken during the meeting at Plymouth in September 2002
or at the meeting in Portland, ME September 30 to October 2,
2004.
The program for the 2005 meeting is
also available.
The next Triennial Meeting is
scheduled for Fall of 2011 in Plymouth.
