Welcome to the Doty-Doten Y-DNA
Surname Project established in the summer of 2006 by the Pilgrim Edward
Doty Society. Our purposes in establishing the Project were:
(1) to
provide a reliable database of likely DNA signatures of the Pilgrim
Edward Doty and his sons against which anyone could confidently compare
their DNA signature,
(2)
to provide a facility that would help us identify different branches of
the Doty family, and
(3) to increase our chances of discovering the
true origins of our Pilgrim Ancestor.
Through February 28, 2009, 59 individuals had joined our Y-DNA Project,
and submitted their DNA samples for testing. Of
these, 55 had received their full 37-marker test results. Complete test results
are pending for the remaining 4 participants.
Three reports are included here with the following titles. They
will be revised as new test results and other relevant information
becomes available.
Y-DNA Test Results,
Y-DNA Primer
Analysis of Results - Our Doty-Doten
Heritage, and
Analysis of Results – Our Deep Ancestral
Roots.
New in the reports this month
are Y-DNA test results for 11 participants. Two of these believe they
are descendants of Edward1 Doty’s son John2, while
four believe they are descendants of his son Samuel2. The
other five participants with new test results are members of other
families. If you are a male with the surname of Doty or one of its variants, or if
you are a male with a surname other than Doty but believe that you may
have a direct male line back to Doty roots, we would encourage you to
join our Project by submitting a sample of your DNA to Family Tree DNA,
the testing company with which we work. If you are a female and have a
close male relative (brother, father, cousin or uncle) with the surname
of Doty or one of its variants, we would invite you to join our Project
as well by asking your close relative to submit a sample of his DNA for
testing. By having your DNA or that of a close male relative tested and
included in our database, you can learn a good deal about your likely
paternal heritage, you can help others learn about theirs, and you can
help all of us learn a great deal more than we currently know about the
Pilgrim Edward Doty.
To Participate in our Doty-Doten Y-DNA Project:
• Go to the
Doty-Doten project on the Family Tree DNA Website.
• Scroll down the page to the order form, fill it out and click on
“Submit”. That’s all there is to it. You will receive a test kit in the
mail within a few days.
